Pitch E
This pitch is close to the road and can be a tad noisy. It is slightly smaller than K and would be ideal for a smaller section to camp in. The water point is situated in the corner of the adjacent pitch but is a shared point.
Pitch K
This site is perfect for a section to camp. It will easily accommodate 6 patrol tents, a kitchen tent and there is space for the leaders tents too. It has a slight slope but camping round the edges seems to work and it leaves an area for the section to congregate in the middle. Pitch K has a water point in the corner adjacent to Pitch E and they share access to it.
The Activity Field
We are not currently recommending this field for camping as the flat area is suffering with excess water and the drier area is on a slope. It tends to be kept as an area where anyone on site can play or run activities. A water point is situated mid way up the field.
The Flag Field
This is the biggest camping area on site and hosts the sites flag pole. It can easily accommodate up to 25 Patrol tents with space to relax in. If used by a section there will be plenty of space for activities and play. A water point is situated mid way up the field
Pitch I
This contains the play ground. A wooden structure for climbing on which also has swings and a slide. Young people using this site MUST be supervised by an adult.
The Top Field
The original field at Wike Camp site! This field has 2 large trees which slightly limits the amount of camping space due to the spread of the boughs. That said, it can easily accommodate a dozen patrol tents leaving space to play. A water point is situated mid way up the field
Pitch W
This is our smallest pitch and sited at the top of the Top field. It is a patrol area and can take 2-3 patrol tents. There is no water to this pitch but it is possible to use the tap on the Top field.
The Fire Shelf
This is the area on site where ground fires for cooking can happen. It runs alongside the Top field and has space for 5-6 fires.
The Bottom Field
This field is at the bottom of a fairly steep slope and kit needs to be walked down. We can at times arrange to transport kit down on a site vehicle but that depends on the state of the ground and the ability to get it back up to the top again! Also please be aware that the toilet block is back up the hill but chemical disposal point is available on site should you wish to use it. It is a slightly wilder site with a stream running down the edge and feels to be more remote – often used when practicing for a green field camp! Beware – the sheep in the next field can be a bit noisy!
The Camp Fire Circle
This is a semicircle of seating in amphitheatre style which can hold 60 people. Although this is bookable, we would hope all groups on site will share the amenity if needed.
The Bunk House
This is a small 6 bunk wooden building and near to the main hut, it is for sleeping only and would be ideal for a catering team using the main hut.
Toilet Block
This was completely rebuilt in 2020 and comprises 6 unisex toilets, 2 shower rooms with toilets and a disability suite. It sits adjacent to the Hut and is used by all on site.
The Hut
This is a wooden building which has a large room for activities and can also be used for sleeping – floor mats and sleeping bags require. There is a small leaders room off this which has 3 beds. The hut also has a fully fitted kitchen with a 6 ring gas range, 2 fridges, a freezer, a commercial dishwasher, a heated cupboard and a water boiler plus plenty of storage and food prep areas.
The hut also has WIFI, and is equipped with a fitted projector and screen for multi media presentations or films.
The Wilderness
This area sits at the bottom of the hill and is not ‘tended’. In summer it tends to be overrun by Himalayan Balsam with which we have an annual battle! In the spring and autumn it can provide an area for bivvying or hammocking and there is a fire area for use. The stream runs through this area.
Wardens Hut
Upper hammock and bivvying area
This wooded area between the activity and flag pole field is ideal for hammocking and building bivvies and shelters.
Lower hammock and bivvying area
This wooded area in the wilderness is ideal for hammocking and building bivvies and shelters.
